  • An Amercian designed product from a well known company
  • Long lasting high performing batteries
  • An expensive “all-in-one” premium battery

Are Tesla batteries any good?

Yes. Tesla provides a premium “all in one” Battery and Inverter solution. Here at Solar Run we understand that a Solar Battery is still an expensive addition to your Solar System. Solar Run recommends Tesla when performance is the most important consideration and price is not an obstacle.

Tesla batteries have been widely installed in Australia and are well suited to Australian conditions. If you are looking for a high performing battery and price is no obstacle then you will be looking at a Tesla battery.

About the company

Tesla was founded in 2003 by a group of engineers interested in electric vehicles. Today, Tesla builds not only all-electric vehicles but also clean energy generation and storage products. Tesla believes the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better.

When you want the best battery for Australian conditions.

All of their batteries are clean energy council approved. Widely sold in Australia Tesla provides market leading batteries. Here in Australia we get very cold temperatures in Winter and very hot temperatures in Summer. Even so it is usually recommended that solar batteries are keep away from direct sun. Tesla batteries have a wide range of operating temperatures.

When you want a battery that is compatible with your inverter.

Some batteries are only compatible with a very limited range of inverters while others are compatible with many different inverters. Tesla powerwall includes their own inverter.

When you need an affordable battery.

Solar Batteries, or ESS (Energy Storage Systems) as the are known, are something that every solar system owner should consider. However, for many the higher prices will be a barrier as even the most affordable Solar batteries cost as much as the rest of the solar system combined. Tesla prices are more expensive than most other leading Solar Battery Providers.

When you want a VPP (Virtual Power Plant) ready battery.

Tesla batteries are a great choice if you are considering signing up to a VPP (Virtual Power Plant). A VPP, for those not familiar with the term, allows many solar systems to act together as a power plant. Collectively a VPP can then store power when it is cheap and sell it when the price is higher more effectively than a single solar system owner. VPPs are not yet common but being “VPP ready” is a must to claim the South Australian Battery Rebate.
Tesla is in the process of offering their own VPP program.

When the size and expandability of the battery is important.

ESS/Solar batteries come in different sizes and shapes. They also come in different setups; some batteries have variable capacity while others have a fixed capacity. Tesla batteries are a relatively small package. They come as a fixed size but they can be combined together to create a bigger battery.

When you want an uninterrupted power supply during a black out.

What many people don’t know is that most solar systems will not work unless connected to the grid. Tesla provides a module that allows you to use some of your solar generation during a black out. The switch is not however uninterrupted.
