Size & Specs of a 9.9kw Solar System

The size and specifications of your solar system will depend on the type of solar panels that you use. Solar panels are in most cases 1.6m x 1m in size. Most panels installed these days are between 275 watts and 350 watts.

How much roof space do you need for a 10kW system?

To generate 10 kilowatts of solar energy using 60-cell panels of 275 watts would require 36 solar panels. This would therefore require 57.6m2 in roof space and generate 9,900 watts (making it a 9.9kW system).

For systems with 60-cell panels of 300 watts you would need 33 panels. This requires 52.8m2 of roof space and generates 9,900 watts of solar energy (also making this a 9.9kW system).

Using 72-cell panels of 350 watts would require 28 solar panels. This would need 44.8m2 of roof space and generate 9,800 watts (making this a 9.8kW system).

From these examples you can see that there are a lot of answers to the question of how much roof space you will need for a 10kW solar system. Broadly speaking a 10kW system will need between 28 and 36 solar panels. This will require between 44m2 and 58m2.

Who is the 9.9kW System Right For?

Generating up to 10kW of solar electricity isn’t necessary for everyone. Small houses or houses with low energy usage should definitely be looking at smaller system sizes. However, for large homes with high energy usage and big appliances this may be the perfect investment for you.
